Liquid BBL (Brazilian Butt Lift) is a minimally invasive procedure, and one of its key advantages is the relatively short downtime compared to traditional surgical butt lifts. Here’s what you can typically expect regarding downtime and recovery:
FDA status. The U.S. Food and Drug Administration has not approved any dermal filler for increasing the size of the buttocks, and it recommends against using injectable fillers for this purpose. Fillers such as Sculptra, Radiesse and Bellafill are approved for specific uses on the face and, in Radiesse’s case, the hands, so their use in a Liquid BBL is off-label. Discuss the risks and alternatives with your provider before deciding. Source: FDA, Dermal Fillers (Soft Tissue Fillers).
Immediate Post-Procedure
- Minor Swelling and Bruising: It's common to experience mild swelling and bruising in the treated areas immediately after the procedure. These effects are generally mild and should subside within a few days to a week.
- Soreness: Some soreness or discomfort at the injection sites is normal, but it is usually manageable with over-the-counter pain relievers.
Downtime
- 24 to 48 Hours: Most patients can return to light activities within 24 to 48 hours after the procedure. However, it’s recommended to avoid sitting directly on your buttocks for prolonged periods during the first couple of days to prevent pressure on the treated areas.
- Avoid Strenuous Activities: Strenuous exercise, heavy lifting, or any activity that puts excessive pressure on the buttocks should be avoided for at least a week. This allows the fillers to settle properly and reduces the risk of complications.
- Compression Garments: In some cases, your provider may recommend wearing a compression garment to help reduce swelling and support the treated areas during the initial healing period.
Recovery Tips
- Sleep Position: Sleeping on your stomach or side can help avoid pressure on the buttocks during the first few days.
- Follow-Up: Attend any scheduled follow-up appointments to ensure proper healing and address any concerns with your provider.
- Hydration and Nutrition: Maintaining good hydration and a healthy diet can support your body’s natural healing process and optimize results.
Summary
The downtime for Liquid BBL is relatively short, with most patients resuming normal activities within a few days. While some care is needed to ensure optimal results and minimize discomfort, the recovery is much less intensive compared to surgical alternatives.
